KANSAS EVENTS AND FUNDRAISERS
|
Local or from afar, there is always an opportunity to help and support and organization, group or foundation. Opportunities include your time, service, monetary donation, fundraising and so much more. True Blue Dog and Horse Savvy will list organizations, groups and foundations who have events by state. Some may also go under our Calendar of Events.
We love it when people help support their charities, organizations and foundations. But BEFORE you do we suggest you contact the organization, foundation, club, etc., and ask them for a copy of their EIN Certificate issued by IRS showing that they indeed are a Non Profit and ask them for a copy of their Articles of Incorporation issued by their state showing that they are incorporated or registered with their state. Not all have to register. If they say they didn't have to register, contact the state and verify it. If they don't send it to you or give you the run around, move on. Any reputable organization will be more than willing to provide you with a copy. You can also request to see their 990 to make sure they are up to date with filing and to see how and where they spend their funds. I am more concerned about their EIN and Articles of Incorporation. You also want to make sure that the donation you are giving them is tax deductible for you if you want to receive a tax deduction. Contact your CPA BEFORE donating.
ALWAYS GET A RECEIPT or Keep your check stub! If there is a group you want to donate to but is not a Non Profit or registered with the state like pet rescues be careful. Not all people who rescue pets are legitimate. I know a few who are. They will be put on this site. I know for a fact that the funds they receive go to the care and welfare of the rescue. They use their own money as well to help vaccinate, spay and neuter and get the proper care for that rescue as well as the funds donated. These funds donated are NOT tax deductible. They are considered a donation from the heart. If you have any concerns or questions, we suggest you contact your CPA (Certified Public Accountant). More resources are in the right column. And remember, just because the organization doesn't have "org" at the end doesn't mean they aren't one. |
